
What is Khrenovuha Vodka?
Khrenovuha is a strong alcoholic drink that is cooked by infusing horseradish and other ingredients on vodka or diluted to 40-50% alcohol. The main ingredients of khrenovuha liquor are vodka, horseradish and honey, the rest are added at will or as they are available. If pure rectified alcohol is available, you can prepare a stronger horseradish than with vodka - with a strength of 50%, but not everyone may like the sharper taste of such a drink. You can also use moonshine to make khrenovuha liquor. But in this case, you need to use moonshine made from grain or fruit raw materials using a technology that ensures its maximum purity. Moonshine for this recipe should be taken with a strength of 40-50%. Sugar moonshine is not suitable for horseradish - you can’t hide its impurities even with horseradish.
Khrenovuha Liquor Ingredients
- Vodka or moonshine - 1 l
- Peeled horseradish root - 50 g
- Honey - 1 tbsp.
- Hot pepper - 3-5 g
- Quince - 35-40 g
- Lemon zest - 3-5 g
Horseradish Vodka Recipe
The main ingredient of khrenovuha liquor is horseradish root; it must be thoroughly cleaned from the top layer to get a white root. Then the horseradish root is cut into small pieces, no more than 1 cm long, so that the substances contained in the horseradish root quickly pass into the tincture. So that horseradish does not run out of steam, it is better to immediately fill it with one liter of vodka, moonshine or diluted alcohol. After that, you need to add honey, a piece of hot pepper, a slice of quince, fresh lemon zest to the tincture and mix everything thoroughly. For ease of mixing, it is better to cook horseradish in a wide-mouthed dish with a capacity of more than 1 liter. You need to stir horseradish until the honey is completely dissolved, after which it can be set aside for infusion.
To improve the infusion, khrenovuha liquor must be stirred daily, this must be done for seven days. A week later, khrenovuha vodka is almost ready - it can be filtered and poured into another dish. After that, it is better to let the khrenovuha liquor for some time, at least a week, and preferably a month or more. This is done for two reasons - firstly, the tastes of all the ingredients of the drink must be combined, and secondly, a precipitate may form during this time. It is better to drain the khrenovuha vodka from the sediment with the help of a decanter - there is no point in filtering it, such a sediment will still remain. Everything, khrenovuha liquor can be consumed, it has a lot of useful properties due to the substances it contains, obtained from horseradish, honey, hot peppers and other ingredients. But it is worth remembering that khrenovuha liquor is a fairly strong alcoholic drink, and it should be consumed in moderation.
